Today is the feast of the Nativity of John the Baptist. John became the herald of the grace of God not only to his barren parents but to all humanity. His mission was ordained for him long before his birth.
Today, the heralds of this everlasting grace of God that, the one confirmed in Christ, are the missionaries who take the place of Jesus of Nazareth, and in imitation of Him dispense his Love, consolation and mercy to the people.
To be a missionary is the call given to all the baptized. All are called to be Christs to one another. However, there are those called in a special way to follow closely the path of self-denial and imitate Christ more closely by leaving everything else behind.
The interpretation of this call is only one way, that of evergrowing imitationof “Jesus of Nazareth”, that is to say, the missionary need to really know who Jesus of Nazareth was and how he went about his mission by his Father.
May the Lord of harvest bless and guide all the missionaries.
