Vote of Excellence

Fr. William Owire, SVD is someone I have personally known for the last fourteen years. The first time I met him was in the year 2005 after he had successfully finished his Master’s Degree in Philosophy in India and was back to finish his Theological studies. The First impression I had of Fr. William from the very beginning, was that of a very organized, disciplined and intelligent person.

William was ordained a Priest in the year 2007 and worked for five long years in Divine Word Parish in Kayole, Nairobi. He left a big memorable mark in the DIWOPA community with his reflective homilies and his school development programme that transformed DIWOPA Primary School to what it is, even today.

Fr. William was never content with anything less than excellent in all that he put his focus on. This is the reason, I believe, why after five years of excellent mission work, he asked to go for further studies. Since then William has been studying in the Katholieke Universiteit Leuven, abbreviated KU Leuven, a research university in the Dutch-speaking town of Leuven in Flanders, Belgium.

He first graduated with a Master’s degree and continue with the doctoral studies in Systematic theology that he successfully defended on 27 May 2019 under the title:

THEOLOGY OF RELIGIONS AS A PROCESS OF DISCERNMENT – A Critical Appraisal of the Dialectical Tension Between Jacques Dupuis’ Theology of Religions and the Theology of Dominus Iesus.

Fr. William is indeed a man of excellence. We congratulate him in this academic milestone that he has achieved in such a short time. We welcome him back to the province to continue to build our mission, especially in the academic dimension.
